Project Description

This is a project within the Call for IRI MdM Internal Projects 2018, a call for R&D projects addressed to IRI early career researchers, under the María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence Programme.

Housekeeping tasks are central in domestic service robotics. For this reason, many grippers have been developed to grasp a great variety of daily living objects of different shapes and textures, but almost entirely, either rigid or semi-rigid. However, an important percentage of housekeeping tasks involves cloth-like objects. This project proposes the development of a gripper that can appropriately deal with textiles, without losing functionality on rigid objects. Such type of grippers will be very relevant for the upcoming years of service robotics and cloth dexterous manipulation.
