Abstract

We introduce a new interoperable geographic standard called agrixel, which employs a unique and innovative data processing methodology—similar to pixels in computer vision or tokens in language processing—leveraging computational power and machine learning in shared data spaces. Focused on AI-driven services for the agri-food sector and founded in a defined ontology, it offers a service portfolio for the sector itself, its externalities, and the circularity of its products. The agrixel standard ensures findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) data, compatible with existing solutions. It supports multiple data layers, enabling extensions to externalities, such as carbon footprint, energy use, water management, logistics, and transport—enhancing efficiency in agri-food production and consumption.
