The Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial (IRI), CSIC-UPC is seeking a researcher assistant to work in the European CANOPIES research project, “A Collaborative Paradigm for Human Workers and Multi-Robot Teams in Precision Agriculture Systems”.
The candidate will be supervised by Prof. Alberto Sanfeliu and Dr. Anaís Garrell, and she/he will work in cooperation with the members of the Mobile Robotics and Intelligence System group at IRI.
ABOUT IRI:
IRI is a Joint University Research Institute participated by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) that conducts research in human-centered robotics and automatic control. The institute is a key player in the Spanish robotics and automatic control scenes and a valued participant in a large number of international collaborations including ten ongoing European projects and an ERC Advanced Grant.
ABOUT CANOPIES project:
The CANOPIES aims to develop a novel collaborative human-robot paradigm addressing the challenges of Human Robot Interaction and Human-Robot Collaboration in the unstructured highly dynamic outdoor environment of permanent crop farming (Agri-Food Area). Our approach will be demonstrated through an integrated system composed by farming robots and logistics robots with a real-world validation of two economically relevant agronomic operations within a table-grape vineyard: harvesting and pruning. CANOPIES represents the first attempt to introduce a collaborative paradigm in the field of precision agriculture for permanent crops where farmworkers can efficiently work together with teams of robots to perform agronomic interventions, like harvesting or pruning in table-grape vineyards.
ABOUT THE CANDIDATE POSITION:
The candidate will assist to the researchers in the experiments of Perception, to detect and guide the robot for harvesting and pruning and of Human-Robot Collaboration and to do task of mapping, navigation and collaboration in harvesting and pruning.
ABOUT THE CONTRACT:
A 1-year position under the European CANOPIES project will be fully covered starting in the Autumn 2023.
Requirements
| Qualifications: | The candidate should have a solid mathematical and Robotics background. She/he should have a master or PhD in robotics. |
| Experience: | The candidate should have proven experience in ROS (Robotic Operating System), Python and/or C++ languages and Linux. Moreover, she/he has to have experience in computer vision and robotics software developments. It will be appreciated if the candidate has participated in the development of real-life experiments with robots. |
| Languages: | Fluent in English |
