Abstract

Water networks are crucial infrastructures for the sustainability of modern cities, and hence their proper operation is of great importance. This includes the fast detection, localization and repair of leaks, which may produce major water losses. This paper presents a comparison between two leak localization methods, which belong to opposite categories: model-based and data-driven. To this end, their main characteristics are reviewed, highlighting their differences and advantages/drawbacks, to finally display several results whose discussion allows to draw important conclusions for the future of the research field.
