Presentation
The Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial (IRI), is a Joint University Research Institute participated by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) that conducts basic and applied research in human-centered robotics and automatic control.
The institute, founded in 1995, is a key player in the Spanish robotics and automatic control scenes, and a valued participant in a large number of international collaborations.
IRI has three main objectives:
To carry out excellence research in Robotics and Automatic Control | To cooperate with the community in industrial technological projects | To offer scientific education through graduate courses |
The Institute's research activities are organized in four research lines:
AUTOMATIC CONTROL | COMPUTATIONAL ROBOTICS | MOBILE ROBOTICS & INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS | PERCEPTION & MANIPULATION |
Recognitions
María de Maeztu Excellence Unit (07/2017 - 06/2021)
IRI received the María de Maeztu scientific excellence seal for the period July 2017 to June 2021. In this period, a strategic research program in human-centered robotics is being developed. This is the main accreditation given by the Spanish Government to research units that stand out for the impact and international relevance of their results.
TECNIO accreditation (since 2018)
IRI received the TECNIO accreditation in November 2018 and November 2020. This seal is granted by the Catalan Government to recognised and differential technology providers which are involved in the tech transfer process.
Consolidated Research Groups
IRI researchers belong to the next research groups accredited as "Grups Consolidats" by the Generalitat de Catalunya for the period 2022-2024.
Groups coordinated by IRI researchers:
Other SGR groups participated by IRI researchers: VIS: Visió artificial i sistemes intel·ligents (2021 SGR 01048), GEOMVAP: Geometria de Varietats i Aplicacions (2021 SGR 00603), SIC: Sistemes Intel·ligents de Control (2021 SGR 00395), ACaPE: Advanced Control and Power Electronics Systems (2021 SGR 00376), CDEI-DM: Centre de Disseny d'Equips Industrials-Dinàmica de Màquines (2021 SGR 00373), IDEAI: Intelligent Data sciEnce and AI Research Group (2021 SGR 01532)
