Presentation

The Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial (IRI), is a Joint University Research Institute participated by the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) that conducts basic and applied research in human-centered robotics and automatic control.

The institute, founded in 1995, is a key player in the Spanish robotics and automatic control scenes, and a valued participant in a large number of international collaborations.

IRI has three main objectives:

To carry out excellence research in Robotics and Automatic Control To cooperate with the community in industrial technological projects To offer scientific education through graduate courses

The Institute's research activities are organized in four research lines:

AUTOMATIC CONTROL KINEMATICS &
ROBOT DESIGN
MOBILE ROBOTICS & INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS PERCEPTION & MANIPULATION

Recognitions

María de Maeztu Excellence Unit

IRI received the María de Maeztu scientific excellence seal for the period July 2017 to June 2021. In this period, a strategic research program in human-centered robotics is being developed. This is the main accreditation given by the Spanish Government to research units that stand out for the impact and international relevance of their results.

TECNIO accreditation

IRI received the TECNIO accreditation in November 2018 and November 2020. This seal is granted by the Catalan Government to recognised and differential technology providers which are involved in the tech transfer process.

Consolidated Research Groups

IRI researchers belong to the next research groups accredited as "Grups Consolidats" by the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Kinematics and Robot Design Grup de Robòtica de l'IRI
Sistemes Avançats de Control Vision and Intelligent Systems

HRS4R

Both of our parent institutions (CSIC and UPC) hold the "HR Excellence in Research" award from the European Commission, which recognizes our commitment to the development of a Human Resources strategy under principles of the European Charter for Researchers.
