Project Description
The overall goal of the DEMETER 5.0 project is the creation of an integral environmentally friendly production system supported by a multilayer digital platform, System of Systems (SoS), that allows the orchestration of heterogeneous data sources and the design of agricultural processes via its engines using DLT-based technologies and AI, Knowledge Bases, Decision Support Systems, modeling, tailored to real environments to tackle the needs of the stakeholders towards climate smart agriculture of high quality products (e.g., cotton).
The following stand out as main innovations:
● Disruptive hydroponic cultivation application for other non-food crops of key economic value worldwide, however unsustainable nowadays due to traditional cultivation methods, grown in the open field with scarce digitalization technology implementation
● The project introduces blockchain technology to ensure the traceability of the entire production process, an element that is being key in the textile industry to fight against falsification of guarantees in organic products, origin of raw materials and production methods.
● The digitization and robotization of the new cotton production system and the interoperable platform will facilitate shortening the supply chain for the textile industry, favoring the development of this type of crop in Spain and Europe compared to traditional producers in China and India, as well as the consequent flourishing of local industry in Spain.
